MISSION STATEMENT
To provide a facility aimed at saving young lives through enhanced driver training, interactive community involvement and education.
OVERVIEW
Young people aged 17-25 represent less than 15% of the population yet account for over 25% of all deaths and injuries on our roads. Almost 30% of deaths within this age group are as a direct result of a motor vehicle crash with young men accounting for over 70% of these.
In July 2009 community leaders from across the Darling Downs including representatives from all levels of Government, Educators, Business Leaders, Emergency Services, Trainers and Service Groups gathered to make a real difference.
As a community we could not afford to lose the life of one more young person through a motor vehicle crash. Time for action in now.
The Drive 4 Life Program is not just about up skilling young drivers, it is a holistic approach targeting attitudes, skills, education, mentorship, trauma support and community ownership.
COMMITTEE STRUCTURE
As the Drive 4 Life project is community driven it is imperative that a wide range of representatives for the management committee. The aim of the Driver Training Facility located within the Toowoomba Showgrounds is to provide a safe and secure location for young drivers to gain the appropriate skills and levels of confidence prior to driving in the public domain.
The facility will include 6km of sealed roads, roundabouts, give way signage, traffic lights, manoeuvring areas and parking bays.
An amenities block with meeting rooms will be constructed on the Eastern side of the grounds. This will enable school groups to undergo training lessons both on driving skills and vehicle knowledge.
Increased conference facilities will be developed within the existing Glenvale Room to accommodate large groups for meeting, lectures and training.
TRAINING
The RASQ D4L Driver Training Facility is not designed as a “Race Track”. All training will be conducted in a structured format under the following conditions:
RYDA: The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program is an attitude based program targeting Year 11 school students. Co-ordinated by Rotary Clubs with the assistance of accredited training providers our aim is to introduce the RYDA program across the Darling Downs within 3 years.
DRIVING TRAINERS: All registered driving trainers will be able to use the facilities to provide training on a one on one basis.
PARENTS/MENTORS: Under the guidance of registered driving trainer Parents/Mentors will be able to provide instruction in groups initially and then individually at set times.
SIMULATION: Shared Vision Group is a progressive new organisation that offers cutting edge technology and world class training methodology. Predominately targeting the mining and civil construction industries it is hoped that a computerised simulator will soon be available to assist young drivers to gain experience in simulations that are unable to be replicated in real life situations.
MARKETING
The target market for the Driver Training Facility initially will be 15-20 year olds. In the future, programs will be developed to include training in motorcycles, quad bikes and four wheel drives.
To get the message to our main target market the Internet via Social Networking sites will be an integral tool. We will be working with local schools and the USQ to develop a website and logo design.
