The Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland (R.A.S.Q) was founded in 1860 by a collection of gentlemen with forward thinking and a sense of vision.

Their focus, as is ours today, is the promotion of agricultural excellence radiating from the Darling Downs to which we have continued for 165 years. The Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show is the oldest event of its type in Queensland. In 1985 the R.A.S.Q. relocated to its current 245 acre purpose built site at Glenvale.

40 years have evolved since relocation to these grounds and it is still growing, offering a first class venue to event organisers across the country, with the inclusion of one of Queensland’s largest indoor equestrian facilities and sales complex.

The Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show comes under the banner of the Royal Agricultural Society of Queensland and for 2026 will be holding its 161st show for the people of the Darling Downs and surrounding regions. The show is organised and run with the assistance of the General Committee and over 500 volunteers and staff.

Due to the size of these facilities we have made arrangements with a number of local groups and businesses to use particular areas of the grounds on a permanent basis.

History

The production of the “very best” in the region had been the aim of agriculturalists and horticulturalists on the Darling Downs back in the 1860s, when the foundation bodies of the Darling Downs Agricultural Society and Drayton and Toowoomba Agricultural and Horticultural Society was formed. The formula for their establishment was based on the European agricultural shows. Many of the farmers who were founder members of these two societies had direct links with European farming families, having come from farming backgrounds in Germany and England to carve out new lives in Australia.
